Tower Technician III - Construction

Overview

Leads and assists in the construction, installation, and maintenance of communications towers and support structures and related telecommunications equipment. Brings strong experience with T-Mobile equipment. Tower Technicians work irregular hours, travel frequently, and work at great heights in extreme weather conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Climbs and works on communication towers for installation, replacement, and repair of antenna system equipment.
• Uses and cares for hand tools and mechanical equipment; completes required daily Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s).
• Recognizes hazards associated with tower climbing, construction equipment, and working near energized lines and equipment; climbs tall structures (≥100 ft) with up to 50 lb load.
• Analyzes situations accurately and adopts an appropriate course of action; communicates orally and in writing; follows instructions and completes assigned tasks.
• Maintains a clean and orderly environment adhering to company policies and OSHA regulations.
• Performs tower rigging techniques, tower drops, top‑side testing procedures (sweeps, PIM, fiber testing, etc.), GPS antenna alignment and antenna installation (RRH’s, ground kits, RET systems).
• Troubleshoots RET systems, runs required line topologies, installs coax, builds connectors of various sizes and types.
• Stacks towers, installs sector mounts, performs microwave dish and radio installations and path alignment; trains lower‑level tower technicians.
• Completes all field requirements for close‑out packages.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Working knowledge of basic hand tools, mechanical equipment, and electro‑mechanical equipment.
• Basic computer skills.
• Self‑motivated and able to learn quickly.
• Ability to lift over 70 pounds.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 2‑3 years of industry experience.
• Strong T‑Mobile experience.
• Good communication, reading, and writing skills (English).
• Good computer skills; general knowledge and use of Microsoft Office.
• Clean driving record & valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
• Ability to accommodate out‑of‑town travel if required.
• OSHA 10, RF awareness training, First Aid/CPR training.
• Experience with Anritsu Site Master, Andrew, PPC, tower mapping and antenna equipment; stacking self‑support towers, installing waveguide, antennas, microwave dishes.
• RF awareness, coax/fiber maintenance, connectors, weatherproofing.
• Highly organized and able to report verbally and in writing to the Tower Foreman.

Physical Demands

• Required to stand, use hands, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, walk, and occasionally sit.
• Regularly lift or move up to 75 lbs; frequently up to 100 lbs; occasionally more than 100 lbs.
• Requires near‑sightedness, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Work near moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, and outside weather conditions; exposed to wet/humid conditions, extreme heat.
• Risk of electrical shock, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, extreme cold.
• Noise level usually moderate.

Salary Information

$25 – $28 per hour
