Job summary

Betacom is seeking a Tower Technician to lead and assist in constructing, installing, and maintaining communications towers and related equipment. You will work irregular hours, travel frequently, and operate at great heights in challenging weather conditions.

Responsibilities include climbing towers, installing antenna systems, ensuring safety compliance, and developing detailed work procedures. Strong communication and ability to lead a crew are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 to 4 years of industry experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, reading and writing skills (English).
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Clean driving record and valid driver's license with reliable transportation.

Leads and assists in the construction, installation, and maintenance of communications towers and support structures and related telecommunications equipment. Leads by example to facilitate timely job completion. Tower Technicians work irregular hours, travel frequently, and work at great heights in extreme weather conditions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Climbs and work on communication stowers for the purpose of installing, replacing, and repairing antenna system equipment.
  • The basic use and care of hand tools and mechanical equipment.
  • Safety Management-ensures crew members are in compliance with company and customer safety requirements.
  • Verifies and ensures all tools and rigging gear are safe to use.
  • Completes required daily Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s).
  • Executes and manages, if required.
  • Knows the hazards associated with tower climbing, construction equipment, and working on or near energized lines and equipment.
  • The ability to climb tall structures (100 feet or more) with 50lb load.
  • Full understanding of a job or project Scope of Work (SOW).
  • Ability to develop and write a detailed Method of Procedure (MOP) for a job/project.
  • Analyzes situations accurately and adopt an appropriate course of action.
  • Solid communications skills, both orally and writing.
  • Follows instructions accurately and complete assigned course of action.
  • Recognizes safety hazards and performing duties in a safe manner.
  • Maintains clean, orderly environment adhering to company policies and industry regulation/standard(s)(OSHA) Experienced with custom tower rigging techniques.
  • Performs stapedrops.
  • Proficient with all test equipment (sweeps, PIM, fiber testing etc.).
  • Performs GPS antenna alignment (Sunsight AAT).
  • Proficient with installation of antennas, RRH’s, ground kits, RET systems.
  • Troubleshooting RET systems–bottom. Runs required lines to topofthetower; grounds coax lines and builds different sizes and types of connectors.
  • Stacks towers, installs sector mounts.
  • Basic knowledge of microwave dish and radio installations Recognizes safety hazards and performs duties in a safe manner.
  • Ability to lead a 4-mantower crew safely and within established budgetary requirements.
  • Ensures jobs are completed fully, meeting all company and customer quality standards and all COP requirements are complying.
  • Safely runs a winch/cathead.
  • Troubleshoots GPS antennas Troubleshoot tower lighting systems.
  • TMA Gaintesting experience RF noise floor testing experience.
  • Act as a team lead and mentoroles experienced Tower Technicians.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Working knowledge of basic hand tools, mechanical equipment, and electro‑mechanical equipment.
  • ComTrain, OSHA10, RFAwareness Training, FirstAID/CPR trained.
  • Must have experience with Anritsu Site Master, Andrew, PPC, tower mapping and antenna equipment.
  • Must have experience stacking self‑support towers, installing waveguide, antennas, and microwave dishes.
  • RFAwareness, replacement, and maintenance i.e. coax, jumpers, TMA’s, connectors, and weather proofing.
  • Highly organized and be able to effectively report verbally and written reports back to the Tower Foreman.
