Job summary

Parks and Recreation/Cacapon Resort State Park seeks a Tourism Program Specialist 2 (Golf Director) to oversee all Golf Pro Shop operations, markets golf programs, and coordinate with park departments to boost local and tourist use of the course.

The role requires strong leadership, experience in travel/hospitality marketing, and the ability to manage staff, procurement, and reporting in a pública state park setting.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in travel promotion, marketing, operations, management, or sales for a travel-related hospitality business, hotel, conference center, in a parks and recreation setting, or state government.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• One (1) year of the required experience will be waived if the Bachelor’s degree is in tourism, marketing, parks and recreation, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate all Golf Pro Shop operations at Cacapon Resort State Park.
• Manage Golf Course staff including hiring, scheduling, training, evaluating and disciplining.
• Procure and market golf merchandise for retail sales and ensure compliance with purchasing and revenue reporting policies.
• Maintain inventories and oversee rental contracts for golf carts and related equipment.
• Collaborate with park departments to market golf programs and ensure proper upkeep of course grounds.

Parks and Recreation/Cacapon Resort State Park

Under the general supervision of Cacapon Resort State Park leadership team, the Tourism Program Specialist 2 (Working Title: Golf Director) performs advanced level managerial work, overseeing and coordinating all Golf Pro Shop operations at Cacapon Resort State Park. The Golf Director position requires self-motivation and the skills necessary to work under limited supervision in day-to-day functions. Facilities overseen by the Golf Director include a Pro Shop, 18-hole golf course, driving range, practice facilities, and golf cart rentals. The Golf Director must possess and employ a thorough and professional knowledge of all facets of Cacapon Resort State Park's Golf Course operations including, but not limited to, retail golf shop operations, golf business management, golf marketing, and customer relations.

The Golf Director will work to develop and market the resort's golf programs to boost both local and tourist use of the course. The Golf Director will foster a cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship between the Pro Shop and other internal resort departments such as Maintenance, Conference Services, Lodge Front Desk, and Food and Beverage. The Golf Director works closely with the resort's Capitol Grounds Manager to ensure proper upkeep of the Golf Course Grounds. The Golf Director may work with golf consultants on specific issues regarding maintenance and operations of the course at Cacapon Resort State Park.

The Golf Director personally procures and markets Cacapon golf merchandise for retail sales at the Pro Shop, as well as ensuring compliance with all purchasing and revenue reporting policies as outlined by the WV State Parks Retail Merchandising Manager. The Golf Director is responsible for overseeing all Golf Course staff including but not limited to interviewing, hiring, scheduling, training, evaluating and disciplining staff. The Golf Course Director oversees correspondence from the Golf Pro Shop to park leadership and will periodically complete reports as required. The Golf Director maintains monthly golf cart gas and oil inventories, as well as correspondence with the golf cart rental contract with the current state contract holder. The Golf Director oversees ensuring all rental agreements with Pro Shop guests are completed accurately and kept on file.

The Golf Director is required to utilize numerous computer software programs to process payroll, scheduling of subordinates, generate reports and ensure proper digital correspondence. The software includes but is not limited to: Google Workplace Suite, Camplife, Golf Now, and UKG Pro. The Golf Course director is responsible for managing the Cacapon Golf Volunteer program.

Overnight travel and/or a varied work schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required. The Golf Director may be subject to work callback on short notice. The Golf Director is subject to all applicable DOP, DNR, and Park Policies. Must possess a valid Driver's License. Performs related work as required. Regular attendance is required.

Training:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

OR

Substitution:

Additional experience as described below may substitute for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty semester hours of training.

AND

Experience:

Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in travel promotion, marketing, operations, management, or sales for a travel-related hospitality business, hotel, conference center, in a parks and recreation setting, or state government.

OR

Substitution:

One (1) year of the required experience will be waived if the Bachelor’s degree is in tourism, marketing, parks and recreation, or a related field.
