Job summary

Commonwealth of Kentucky is seeking a Golf Course Assistant Superintendent for Pine Mountain State Resort Park. You will support the superintendent in 18-hole course maintenance, lead staff, and ensure high-quality turf management while delivering excellent guest experiences.

Must have two years of golf maintenance experience (or an Associate's/Turfgrass cert substitute) and a valid driver's license; Kentucky pesticide credentials may be required within six months.

Qualifications

• Two years experience working on a golf maintenance staff for a regulation golf course.
• Associate's degree in plant sciences or a Turfgrass Management certificate can substitute for one of the two years of experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Golf Course Superintendent in all phases of maintenance of an 18-hole golf course.
• Lead staff in the care and maintenance of turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees and wetlands on course.
• Use and inspect manual and power operated equipment.
• Greet guests and golfers in a courteous and professional manner.
• Provide a quality product, ensuring golfers have a positive experience.

We are currently seeking a full-time Golf Course Assistant Superintendent to work in the Golf Maintenance division at Pine Mountain State Resort Park. Pine Mountain is located 15 miles from Cumberland Gap National Park and the oldest state park in Kentucky. We are comprised of a hotel, lodge, cabins, cottages’, restaurant, convention center, 18-hole golf course, pool, natural amphitheater, picnic shelters, nature center and hiking trails.

Primary duties of the Golf Course Assistant Superintendent Position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assist the Golf Course Superintendent in all phases of maintenance of an 18-hole golf course.
• Help maintain cost control and agronomic operations.
• Lead staff in the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees and wetland on course under the guidance of the Golf Course Superintendent.
• Use and inspect manual and power operated equipment.
• Greet guests and golfers in a courteous and professional manner.
• Provide a quality product, ensuring that golfers have a positive experience.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: High School Graduate

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years experience working on a golf maintenance staff for a regulation golf course.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: An Associate's degree in plant sciences or a Certificate of Turfgrass Management from an accredited university can substitute for ONE of the required two years of working experience.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Must obtain Kentucky Pesticide Applicator License within six months of employment. The N-18 Pesticide Applicators License required by this position can be obtained by passing the test administered by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed outdoors.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 9 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
