Job description

DEFINITION / GENERAL PURPOSE

Assists with community recreation programs, including concessions, cultural arts, physical activities, special interest classes, and summer programs.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Works under the general supervision of the Golf Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the implementation of camp activities, including the distribution of flyers, rules and registration forms.
  • Lead activities geared toward specific age groups.
  • Assist in collecting fees; answer calls pertaining to camp activities and input data into the computer.
  • Accurately collect money and complete daily cash reports.
  • Assist with field or court setup for special activities.
  • Assist in the implementation of community recreation programs.
  • Assist in camps, classes, workshops and activities in recreation programs and cosponsored programs.
  • Assist and implement cultural arts, physical activities, day camps and special interest activities for youth.
  • Respond to public inquiries about recreation programs by telephone, correspondence or during public events.
  • Assist in preparing publications such as brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, and related communications regarding recreation programs.
  • Coordinate sports programs, register children for teams, collect fees, contact coaches, distribute and collect uniforms.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties such as answering phone, typing correspondence, running errands, picking up supplies, conducting arts/crafts activities for children, making arrangements for rental and use of Recreation Building, and helping set up tables and chairs for classes.
  • Assist in scheduling activities at the Community/Civic Center.
  • Assist in any concession-related activities, including design, layout, operation, inventory, and fee collecting.
  • Promote interest and provide information regarding recreation/athletic programs to school officials, other recreation officials, community service groups, other departments, and the general public.
  • Effectively communicate and work with citizens who may have complaints about services provided.
  • Perform other essential duties as required to achieve successful operations of the department.
  • Follow directions.
  • Manage tee time sheet and EZ Links.
  • Run cash register and receive annual dues payments and distribute bills.
  • Parks and stores golf carts, empties trash, restocks items, cleans rental equipment, picks up trash in the parking lot, marshals golf course, checks water jugs, etc.
  • Perform daily register reconciliation reports through the POS system.
  • Maintain regular and timely attendance.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
  • Serve as a member of various employee committees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Six (6) months related experience in recreation preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Valid Texas state driver's license or ability to obtain one by date of hire.

  • Knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to supervise the work of volunteers.
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to the work schedule.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
SELECTION GUIDELINES

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Personal computer (including word processing and database software); calculator; copy and fax machine; phone; mobile or portable radio; automobile; various sports equipment used in recreation programs.
