Tooling Tech Location: North Houston, TX Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:30 PM Pay: Up to $45/hour, depending on experience Employment Type: Full-Time We are seeking an experienced Tooling Technician / Injection Mold Repair Technician for a priority opening in North Houston. This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing plastic injection molds and related tooling to minimize production downtime and ensure molds remain safe, reliable, and production-ready.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance on plastic injection molds.
- Disassemble, inspect, clean, repair, and reassemble injection molds.
- Troubleshoot mold and tooling issues affecting production and part quality.
- Repair or replace damaged and worn mold components.
- Inspect and maintain mold cavities, cores, inserts, slides, lifters, ejector systems, leader pins, and bushings.
- Inspect and repair hot runner systems, heaters, thermocouples, and related components.
- Troubleshoot water lines, fittings, O-rings, seals, and cooling circuits.
- Perform mold spotting, fitting, polishing, bench work, spot-in work, and welding.
- Support emergency mold repairs to reduce machine downtime.
- Identify recurring tooling problems and recommend corrective actions.
- Read and interpret mold drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Use precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, indicators, and height gauges.
- Operate appropriate toolroom equipment such as grinders, drill presses, and polishing equipment.
- Assist with mold modifications, engineering changes, new mold trials, and tooling validation.
- Complete preventive maintenance documentation and maintain accurate repair history.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience with injection mold maintenance, mold repair, toolmaking, or a related technical field.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read technical drawings and understand dimensional requirements.
- Experience using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a technical team.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and safety.
- Ability to respond quickly to production tooling issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of injection molding tooling repair or mold maintenance experience.
- Experience with multi-cavity injection molds.
- Experience with hot runner systems.
- Experience troubleshooting hydraulic and mechanical mold components.
- Experience with mold polishing and spotting.
- Basic machining experience.
- Experience with preventive maintenance or CMMS systems.
- Experience supporting high-volume injection molding operations.
