Job summary

Voss Recruitment is seeking an organized Toolmaker specialized in Plastic Injection Molding to join our client’s manufacturing team in North West Houston. You will bridge hands-on maintenance with operational oversight, coordinating the lifecycle of approved mold tools and collaborating with external tooling vendors to keep production running safely.

Core duties include vendor management, tooling diagnostics, and ensuring accurate tool history and maintenance logs.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2+ years of experience in a plastic injection molding environment, with exposure to tool maintenance, coordination, or vendor tracking.
• Demonstrated ability to act as a point of contact for external suppliers, evaluate technical quotes, and track project timelines.
• Strong foundational understanding of injection mold mechanics
• Valid forklift operator certification (or the ability to obtain one immediately upon hire) and comfort with safely rigging and moving heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee lifecycle and preventive maintenance schedules of all approved injection mold tools.
• Coordinate with external tooling vendors for outsourced mold builds, modifications, and repairs.
• Safely perform facility logistics, including forklift and overhead crane tasks for tools.
• Inspect incoming/outgoing tools to identify defects and decide on in-house vs. outsourced repairs.
• Maintain tool history, vendor quotes, compliance certifications, and maintenance logs.

In this role, you will bridge the gap between technical hands-on maintenance and operational oversight. You will be responsible for coordinating the lifecycle of approved mold tools, collaborating with external tooling vendors, and performing essential facility logistics to keep production running smoothly and safely.

Core Responsibilities

• Tool Coordination & Lifecycle Management: Oversee, track, and coordinate the complete lifecycle and preventative maintenance schedules of all approved injection mold tools.
• Vendor Management: Work closely with external tooling vendors to manage outsourced mold builds, modifications, and major repairs. Ensure all external work meets strict internal quality and compliance standards.
• Operational Duties & Logistics: Safely handle specialized facility tasks, including operating heavy machinery such as forklifts and overhead cranes to transport, load, and store heavy mold tools.
• Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Inspect incoming and outgoing tools, identify defects (e.g., flash, venting issues), and determine whether repairs should be handled in-house or outsourced to a vendor.
• Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate tracking systems for tool history, vendor quotes, compliance certifications, and maintenance logs.

Required Skills & Qualifications
