Job summary

MPI Engineered Technologies in Knox, IN is seeking an experienced Tool & Die Maker / Machinist – T2 for the 2nd shift to construct, repair and maintain precision dies and tooling. You will read blueprints, set up Tool Room machinery, and produce parts within tight tolerances, including ±0.0001" where required.

The position requires strong safety practices, teamwork, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. A T2 Journey Card and relevant machining experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Must hold the T2 Tool & Die Journey Card as required.

Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Tool & Die Maker / Machinist – T2 to join our 2nd Shift Tool Room team.

Pay & Shift

Starting Pay: $27.78 per hour

Shift: 2nd Shift

Must already hold a T2 Tool & Die Journey Card to be considered for this position.

Position Overview

The Tool & Die Maker / Machinist is responsible for constructing, repairing, maintaining, and modifying precision dies, tooling, fixtures, gauges, and related equipment. This position requires the ability to operate Tool Room machinery, perform equipment setups, read blueprints, and work accurately within tight tolerances.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Follow all established safety procedures and report unsafe conditions or behaviors to the supervisor.
• Operate Tool Room machinery, including milling, turning, grinding, drilling, and cutoff equipment.
• Perform machine and equipment setups.
• Construct, repair, modify, and maintain new and existing dies, fixtures, gauges, and tooling.
• Perform die repairs and construct replacement die parts.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and measurements.
• Use precision measuring tools and gauges to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality.
• Work consistently within required tolerances, including ±0.0001" when required.
• Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on Tool Room machinery.
• Maintain quality standards and complete work accurately and efficiently.
• Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Quality Policies, Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other company requirements.
• Complete required paperwork and documentation.
• Maintain productivity and efficiency standards.
• Communicate effectively with employees and supervisors across shifts.
• Maintain a clean, safe, neat, and organized work area.
• Assist with tooling projects and work with Engineering and Manufacturing as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Current T2 Tool & Die Journey Card – required.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience as a Tool & Die Maker and/or Machinist.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to read and write English.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Ability to use precision measuring instruments and gauges.
• Strong math skills, including decimals, fractions, geometry, and basic calculations.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality.
• Good attendance and work performance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating Tool Room machinery.
• Experience with fineblanking dies and tooling.
• Experience with milling, turning, grinding, drilling, and other machining equipment.
• Knowledge of geometry and trigonometry.
• Experience working with tight precision tolerances.
• Toolmaker/tooling experience in a manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to sit for periods of time when operating equipment.
• Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry materials and tooling up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to lift materials from floor level to approximately 4 feet.
• Ability to use both hands for lifting, carrying, and operating machinery.
• Vision must be correctable to 20/20 in both eyes.
