Job summary

Challenge Manufacturing in Kansas City, MO is seeking a skilled tool and die machinist to troubleshoot, set up, and maintain dies and tooling used in our production of metal assemblies for automotive customers. You will read blueprints, determine dimensions, and operate lathes, mills, grinders, and other tools to fabricate and repair parts to spec.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, 2+ years tool and die experience, and familiarity with Mastercam or SolidWorks; ability to read

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Journeyman or completed apprenticeship (preferred).
• Minimum 2+ years of verifiable tool and die experience or equivalent.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to safely perform duties.
• Mastercam and Solidworks experience (preferred).
• Intermediate level of machining and metalworking experience.
• Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Must be able to work up to 12 hours per day, including weekends.
• Must be able to obtain a hi-lo license.

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints, sketches, models to determine materials and machines to use.
• Compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly methods and sequences.
• Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining.
• Set up and operate machine tools (lathes, mills, shapers, grinders) and verify conformance.
• Lift and position machined parts on surfaces and fixtures.
• Smooth surfaces and assemble parts into assemblies and mechanisms.
• Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
• Heat-treat tools or parts.
• Examine dies, tools, and fixtures and suggest design improvements.
• Troubleshoot tooling to achieve target quality.
• Follow safety procedures and company policies.
• Use calipers, micrometers, gauge pins, and other measurement equipment.
