Job summary

Challenge Manufacturing in Kansas City, MO seeks an experienced tool and die professional to troubleshoot, set up, and repair dies and tooling used in our metal stamping processes. You will study blueprints, measure parts with calipers and micrometers, and operate machine tools to fabricate and finish dies.

Must read English, pass safety rules, and work up to 12 hours with weekend shifts. Journeyman or apprenticeship preferred; HS diploma required; 2+ years experience.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• Journeyman or Apprenticeship preferred.
• 2+ years verifiable tool and die experience.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English to safely perform duties.
• Mastercam and SolidWorks experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Study specifications (blueprints, sketches, models) to determine materials and machines.
• Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders to fabricate and repair dies.
• Compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly methods.
• Measure, mark, and verify stock and parts with calipers and gauges.
• Verify dimensions and tolerances; inspect parts for conformance to specs.
• Troubleshoot tooling and assist in design improvements as needed.

Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, and sets up and operations machine tools to make and repair dies.What You’ll Do:Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used tofabricate parts.Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations.Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining.Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts tospecifications.Lifts machined parts and positions and secures parts on surface plate or worktable.Smooths flat and contoured surfaces using power grinders and fits and assembles parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms.Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances.Heat treats tools or parts.Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part.Troubleshoot tooling analysis and resolve problems to obtain quality level of parts.Follow all safety precautions and company policies to prevent injury to self and others.Utilize calipers, micrometers, gauge pins and blocks, various other types of measurement equipment.When and Where:This will be a Y Shift / 5:00 AM - 5:00 PM Friday-Sunday position located at our Plant in Kansas City, MO.What You Need to Have:High school diploma or equivalent (required).Journeyman or completed apprenticeship (preferred).Must have minimum 2+ years of verifiable tool and die experience or equivalent.Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English at a level sufficient to safely and effectively perform job duties, including following work instructions, safety procedures, and company communications.Mastercam and Solidworks experience (preferred).Must have intermediate level of machining and metal working experience.Strong mechanical and shop math aptitude (preferred).Must be able to understand and follow written and verbal workplace instructions.Must be able to work up to 12 hours per day, including Saturday and Sunday. Must be able to obtain a hi-lo license.
