Responsibilities

  • Review blueprints, drawings and specifications before tooling setup to ensure accuracy.
  • Create/assemble tooling for CNC machines using setup sheets and mount tooling for precise data capture.
  • Use heat shrink machine to create tools for specific jobs.
  • Record or export tool offset data via labels, barcodes, RFID, or CNC network.
  • Maintain tool carts and restock tools as needed.
  • Keep tooling inventory database updated and organized.

Purpose of the Role/Role Overview

To provide CNC Operators with tooling designated by the CAM Programmers, which will help streamline and maximize efficiency during the setup process. During down time, may run a CNC machine or set up when business needs allow.

General Duties/Key Responsibilities
  • Reviewing blueprints, drawings, specifications prior to starting of tooling to ensure accuracy.
  • Creating/Assembling tooling for CNC machines using provided Setup/Tool Sheets. Mounting the assembled tool into the tool pre-setter to capture precise dimensional data (X and Z axes, radii, and angles) without tying up the actual CNC machines.
  • Utilizing the heat shrink machine to create tools for specific jobs.
  • Recording or digitally exporting the calculated tool offset data via labels, barcodes, RFID chips, or direct CNC network integration.
  • Creating and maintaining tool carts for each job.
  • Restocking/Ordering new tools for worn/used tooling per approvals.
  • Maintaining database tracking for the entire facility’s tooling inventory.
  • Organizing and maintaining cleanliness of the tool room.
  • Running CNC/Set up machines in down time as business needs allow.
  • Operating a forklift safely and overhead crane while maintaining all safety guidelines.
  • Being able to decipher between sharp and dull tooling while inspecting tools for wear, chipping, and structural damage before and after production runs.
  • Sharpening Drills as needed.
  • Working independently with minimal guidance on operational and technical challenges.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience dealing with tooling for CNC machines, preferred.
  • 3 Years’ experience with CNC calculations, CAD and CAM software, preferred.
  • Front load forklift experience, preferred
  • Basic math skills required.
Physical Requirements
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time on a concrete floor.
  • Be able to be in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment being exposed to forklift, machining, and potentially other loud noises.
  • Be able to withstand heat during the use of the heat shrink machine.
  • Must be able to go up and down stairs.
  • Be able to hear and or see the machine alarms with abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Be able to wear all necessary PPE such as steel toed boots, safety glasses, etc.
