Description
Analyzes a variety of specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate or repair cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges while applying knowledge of tool design, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, machining, and assembly procedures.

Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years experience using a full range of manual tool room equipment. (CNC machine programming skills and/or familiarity with 4-Slides, Multi-slides, Punch Presses, and other wire-forming machines are strongly preferred but not required.)
- In-house training on all assigned machinery and equipment.
Must Haves:
- 4-slides experience (at least 1 year)
- Tool Design experience (at least 5 years)
Nice to Haves:
- TMA Certificate
- Coal Heading
- Small Stamping
- Experience forming things out of wire
- AutoCAD experience
- EDM Machine experience
- Haas Machine experience
Essential Functions:
- Study specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, or tool descriptions, and plan sequence of operations.
- Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock to lay out workpieces for machining.
- Set up and operate machine tools, such as lathe, milling machine, shaper, and grinder to machine parts to specifications, and verify conformance.
- Position and secure parts on surface plate or worktable, using vises, V-blocks, and angle plates.
- Fit and assemble parts into assemblies or mechanisms, using hand tools.
- Verify dimensions and alignment, using measuring instruments following ISO/TS 16949 work instructions.
- Examine and modify standard tools as required.
- Develop specifications from descriptions and draw or sketch tools to be fabricated.
- Communicate with co-workers and supervisors to receive instructions and coordinate activities.
- Inspect and measure parts to maintain statistical process control charts.
- Obtain first-piece inspection of samples.
- Troubleshoot tool, machine, or material problems.
- Set up tooling in various production equipment and product lines.
- Maintain an organized and neat work station.
- Prevent damage to equipment, process, and material.
- Adhere to all safety rules and procedures.
- Perform to prescribed standards or rate.
- Return all tools, gauges, parts, etc., to proper storage.
- Report problems and issues to supervisor.
- Follow all written and oral instructions.
- Comply with company policies including safety and attendance.
- Work effectively with others to resolve issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Ability to read, write, communicate, and understand instruction in English.
- Ability to measure parts using tools, gauges, and instruments.
- Basic math skills including geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to read blueprints and understand tolerances.
- Understanding of statistical control and process capability.
- Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
