Responsibilities

  • Provide supplemental instruction in small groups or one-on-one.
  • Deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons.
  • Support reading, mathematics, and other core skills as needed.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to align with curriculum and goals.
  • Review progress data and teacher recommendations to identify needs.
  • Monitor progress and document instructional services and student growth.
  • Adjust strategies based on progress and learner needs.
  • Communicate with teachers, administrators and families.
  • Maintain a positive, respectful learning environment.
  • Support students' confidence and effective learning habits.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow Title I requirements.
  • Participate in required meetings and professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the school administrator.

Employment Status: Part-Time, Hourly
Schedule: 5 hours per day/155 days

Position Summary

Alexandria Public Schools is seeking a caring, dedicated, and student-focused Title I Teacher to provide targeted academic support to students who need additional assistance in reading, mathematics, or other core academic areas. The Title I Teacher will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and school leadership to identify student needs, provide individualized or small-group instruction, monitor progress, and support students in reaching their academic potential.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide supplemental instruction to eligible students in small-group or individual settings.
  • Deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction based on identified student needs.
  • Support students in reading, mathematics, and other academic skill areas as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to align supplemental instruction with classroom curriculum and student goals.
  • Review student performance data, classroom assessments, and teacher recommendations to identify areas for additional support.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain appropriate documentation of instructional services and student growth.
  • Adjust instructional strategies and interventions based on student progress and individual learning needs.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with classroom teachers, administrators, and families as appropriate.
  • Maintain a positive, encouraging, and respectful learning environment.
  • Support students' confidence, independence, and development of effective learning habits.
  • Maintain student confidentiality and follow all school policies and applicable Title I requirements.
  • Participate in required meetings, professional development, and training as requested.
  • Perform other duties related to student support as assigned by the school administrator.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Current teaching license
  • Experience working with elementary or secondary students in an educational setting.
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students of varying academic abilities and learning needs.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all students.

Compensation

Hourly Rate: $30-35 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
