Position Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the school Principal and instructional coach, to assist certified professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives in literacy development.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, and other skills.
  • Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
  • Assists professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
  • Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
  • Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
  • Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
  • Assist with supervision on the playground or in the lunchroom
  • Constructs, copies and distribute and use educational materials as needed.
  • Assists teacher with parent contact as requested to foster effective and participatory parent involvement in student education.
  • Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
Additional Duties:
  • Assist guidance, pupil services staff or building administration, as needed.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the necessary knowledge and skills for successful job performance will be considered. Required qualifications to work at a Title I schools include:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required (submit diploma or certification within the job application)
  • Title I School Requirement: To work at a Title I school, candidates must meet the Highly Qualified Paraprofessional standard by fulfilling one of the following:
    • Hold an Associate's degree (if applicable, upload evidence within job application)
    • Have completed at least 48 college or university credit hours (if applicable, upload transcript within the job application)
    • Successfully pass the MasterTeacher Paraprofessional exams within 3 months of being hired
  • Minimum Age: Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Contract

*29hours per week-Time card. This position is dependent on funds, and hours may be cut, or the position eliminated if funds are cut.

Support Professional Employees Salary Schedule: E1 Plus $2.50 NESS pay (additional levels given for previous experienceand Associateor BA degree)
