Job summary

The Williamsburg James City School District is seeking a Title I Paraprofessional Math Tutor to provide part-time direct supplemental instruction in math to eligible Title I students in grades K-5 at designated schools.

Under the supervision of Title I teachers and coordinators, you will maintain lesson records, participate in training, and report student progress to families and staff while upholding district values.

Qualifications

  • Completed at least 2 years of study or an associate degree or higher.
  • Ability to communicate through clear and grammatically proper speech and basic writing and computing skills.
  • Knowledge of educational instructional practice and teaching methods.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard document formats used in the assigned area.
  • Safeguards all student and teacher information against unauthorized use.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
  • Ability to plan and manage assigned functions.
  • Proficiency in word processing and keyboarding for lesson planning and data entry.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Professional attitude and good communication skills with public.

Responsibilities

  • Teach small-group math lessons to identified Title I students.
  • Work under the supervision of a Title I teacher and math specialist.
  • Work the identified Part-time hours as assigned by Title I staff.
  • Maintain lesson records, data, and progress monitoring information.
  • Provide progress reports to Title I team and parents as requested.
  • Complete any provided training to deliver math instruction with fidelity.
  • Summarize student needs, goals, and progress for stakeholders.
  • Maintain a courteous, collaborative demeanor with staff, students, and visitors.

JOBSUMMARY

This position provides part-time direct supplemental instruction in the area of math to eligible identified Title I students in grades K-5 as designated within the specific Title I school’s program.

  • Follows identified instructional methods as outlined in the approved Title I Grant Application and school’s Title I plan to teach small-group math lessons to identified students.
  • Works under the direct supervision of a Title I teacher and math specialist within the school setting and/or the indirect supervision of the Title I Coordinator, Principal and Assistant Principal, and lead Title I teacher(s) of a Title I school as needed.
  • Work the identified Part-time hours as identified by the Title I Coordinator and/or the Title I administrator in the school setting.
  • Maintains the necessary lesson records, entry/exit data, and progress monitoring records and provides those to the school’s Title I team or the Title I Coordinator, when requested.
  • Participates in and successfully completes any provided training for the purpose of delivering supplemental math instruction with fidelity to the identified methods and programs.
  • Is able to provide a summation of student needs, instruction goals, and progress to the Title I team in order to report to parents or other school faculty and administration.
  • Maintains a pleasant attitude, exhibits tactful and courteous behaviour to co-workers, students, parents, and visitors.

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS(Knowledge,Skillsand/orAbilitiesRequired)

  • Completed at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education or obtained an associate degree or higher.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard document formats and specific document formats used in assigned area.
  • Safeguards all student and teacher information against unauthorized use or access.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
  • Ability to plan and manage assigned functions.
  • Proficiency, in use of word processing software as exhibited by use of all program functions routinely used in the lesson planning; possesses keyboarding skills with which to produce accurate work in a timely and efficient manner, and ability to learn to use various software programs for instructional use or assessments, as needed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Exhibits a professional attitude and good communications skills to deal with members of the general public in a pleasant and effective manner both on the telephone and in person.

Performs duties under the supervision of the Title I Coordinator and the supervision of building Title I Teachers and Administrators.

WORKINGCONDITIONS&PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS

Duties are normally performed in a school or classroom setting as designated by the school administration or Title I Staff. Ability to sit; stick or kneel; crouch. Periodically works under pressure to ensure correct data reports, lesson records, progress monitoring information, or parent reporting information is provided to Title I Staff to meet firm deadlines. Must be physically capable of occasionally lifting or moving up to 30 pounds.
