Job summary

Vertiv Group Corporation is seeking a Thermodynamic Engineer to lead the design and optimization of chiller systems for data centers, from quotation to detailed design and implementation.

The role requires strong thermodynamics knowledge, 5+ years in chiller/HVAC design, and collaboration across mechanical, electrical, and application engineering teams to deliver engineered-to-order solutions at Polaris Westerville, OH.

Qualifications

• BSME or degree with a thermodynamic background.
• 5+ years of experience in chiller or liquid HVAC system design, preferably for data center applications.
• Strong knowledge of thermodynamic and refrigeration principles, focusing on high-reliability performance.
• Ability to analyze customer requests and develop customized solutions.
• Experience with full product lifecycle management; Lean/Six Sigma concepts preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform quotation and cost evaluation for customer-requested modifications to the standard product.
• Design and optimize the main components of chillers for data centers, ensuring thermodynamic performance and energy efficiency.
• Collaborate with Application Engineers to understand customer requirements and propose balanced solutions.
• Coordinate with mechanical and electrical teams for implementation of approved units.
• Ensure designs meet standards for quality, reliability, cost, and delivery time.
• Review and approve technical documentation (CAD drawings, BOMs).
• Manage multiple projects, balancing special development with production support.
