Job summary

Blue Origin LLC in the Greater Seattle Area seeks a Thermal Testing Engineer II to join ACE, supporting spaceflight material testing with hands-on lab work. Operate and maintain testing equipment and execute test plans for metals and polymers, contributing to safe and reliable spaceflight systems.

The role collaborates with engineers to design tests, report results, and mentor junior technicians while applying ASTM standards and exploring cryogenic or elevated temperatures.

Qualifications

  • BS Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of thermal testing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to author test documentation, such as plans and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain materials testing and analytical equipment (Gleeble, DSC, STA, Thermal Analysis).
  • Execute test plans according to ASTM standards, or design bespoke test plans with sample preparation, fixturing, and data reporting and analysis.
  • Document procedures, calibration steps, and test results with discipline and clarity, validate test configurations and communicate results informing design decisions.
  • Provide guidance to early career technicians/technical specialists on equipment setup, fabrication techniques, and safe work practices.
  • Conduct thermal analysis of metal alloys and polymeric materials
