Job description

Talascend is currently seeking a Thermal Hydraulics Engineer for long-term contract career opportunity, 100% remote.

Candidates may reside anywhere in the USA and be eligible to work for any employer without sponsorship now, or in the future.

OVERVIEW:

The selected candidate will perform thermal-hydraulics analyses using the RELAP5-3D code, supporting plant-wide and component-level transient analysis for a sodium-cooled reactor program. The role involves close collaboration with the safety group and other engineering teams to develop, validate, and apply system models.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Develop RELAP5-3D models for steady-state and transient hydraulic analyses.
  2. Perform calculations based on heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics principles.
  3. Analyze reactor operations, upset events, and faulted events to determine design limits.
  4. Evaluate plant-wide transients to support operational narratives and design solutions.
  5. Conduct multidisciplinary analyses involving thermal hydraulics of sodium and other fluids.
  6. Benchmark and validate codes to support qualification and methodology development.
  7. Collaborate with engineering groups on design and testing activities.
REQUIREMENTS:
  1. B.S. or higher in nuclear or mechanical engineering.
  2. Strong thermal-hydraulic analytical skills, with expertise in one-dimensional hydraulic network analysis.
  3. Minimum 2 years of experience with RELAP5.
  4. Strong communication and technical writing skills.
  5. Experience with safety analysis and code verification/validation is preferred.
  6. Familiarity with nuclear reactor design or operations is a plus.

Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.

Travel up to 5% may be required.
