Job summary

AMD is seeking a highly motivated Thermal Engineering intern/co-op to join the team in Santa Clara. You will contribute to development of cooling technologies for AI and HPC platforms and gain hands-on experience on projects impacting millions of end-users.

You will be involved in thermal characterization, scripting for test automation, and data-driven analysis, while collaborating with engineering teams to propose effective solutions.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Master’s degree in a US-based university in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Thermal Sciences, or related field.
• Knowledge of heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and thermal-fluid systems.
• Experience with CAD/CFD tools (SolidWorks/Creo; ANSYS/CFD software) is a plus.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in thermal and hydraulic characterization of cooling solutions (cold plates, manifolds, heat exchangers, coolant loops, rack-level cooling).
• Evaluate air-cooled and liquid-cooled platforms through thermal, airflow, coolant-flow, and pressure-drop analyses.
• Support laboratory testing, instrumentation setup, data acquisition, and thermal validation activities.
