Job summary

ABB E-mobility in San Giovanni Valdarno is seeking an experienced R&D Thermal Engineer to lead the thermal design of innovative EV charging technologies, from concept to final production, working across mechanical, software and testing teams.

You will apply CFD/CFX tools, run numerical simulations, and validate designs in lab tests, with a collaborative, startup-like mindset within a global company.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in physics, mechanical, energy engineering or equivalent.
• 3–5 years of experience in a medium-high range company focused on design and testing as Thermal Engineer or equivalent.
• Strong experience in numerical modelling and heat exchanger design for cooling of power electronics, with air and liquid cooling.
• Experience with CFD/CFX and heat transfer simulations (ANSYS CFD, SolidWorks Flow Simulation preferred).
• Proficient in 3D CAD, especially SolidWorks; familiarity with lab testing and sensors.
• Fluent in English, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Lead thermal design of new projects from concept to final design.
• Validate thermal designs via simulations and experiments per internal procedures and KPIs.
• Collaborate with mechanical and software teams to meet requirements.
• Define thermal test layouts and procedures with testing engineers and sensor selection.
• Coordinate with suppliers to identify optimal thermal solutions and prototypes for production.
• Explore innovative thermal management solutions.
