ABB E-mobility in San Giovanni Valdarno is seeking an experienced R&D Thermal Engineer to lead the thermal design of innovative EV charging technologies, from concept to final production, working across mechanical, software and testing teams.

You will apply CFD/CFX tools, run numerical simulations, and validate designs in lab tests, with a collaborative, startup-like mindset within a global company.

Qualifikationen

• Master's degree in physics, mechanical, energy engineering or equivalent.
• 3–5 years of experience in a medium-high range company focused on design and testing as Thermal Engineer or equivalent.
• Strong experience in numerical modelling and heat exchanger design for cooling of power electronics, with air and liquid cooling.
• Experience with CFD/CFX and heat transfer simulations (ANSYS CFD, SolidWorks Flow Simulation preferred).
• Proficient in 3D CAD, especially SolidWorks; familiarity with lab testing and sensors.
• Fluent in English, written and spoken.

We are looking for an R&D Thermal Engineer to be part of our R&D Department in San Giovanni Valdarno.

Your Responsibilities

• You lead the thermal design of new projects from the concept to the final design
• You are responsible to validate the thermal design of the products through numerical simulations and experiments, based on internal procedure and projects KPI
• You work with the mechanical and software department to achieve the needs.
• You work with the testing engineers to define the thermal tests layout, testing procedure, as well as select the sensors type to be used
• You work with our suppliers’ patterns to find the best thermal solutions and create the protypes to finalize for production.
• You look for innovative thermal management solutions.

Your Background

• You have a master’s degree in physics, mechanical, energy engineering or equivalent, with a solid know how in fluid mechanics and heat transfer phenomena.
• With at least 3-5 years of experience in a medium-high range company focus on design and testing as Thermal Engineer or equivalent.
• You have strong experience in numerical modelling, design and testing of liquid to air heat exchangers, cooling of power electronic devices through air cooling, liquid cooling, multiphase cooling (is a plus).
• You have experience analyzing and processing experimental data for correlations development and models validation as well.
• You are an advanced user of CFD/CFX simulation tools mainly applied to heat transfer problems and heat conduction as well (ANSYS CFD and SolidWork Flow Simulation are preferred).
• You are a good user of 3D CAD system, in particular SolidWorks.
• Having experience in fan acoustic noise measurements and numerical simulation through FEM software is a plus.
• You feel comfortable in the lab, collaborating with testing engineers for mockups design and thermal test setup for products validation.
• You are a passion person with a lot of flexibility and creativity to accept proactively the daily challenges to provide the best solution.

Compensation Package

The employment framework is based on the National Collective Labour Agreement (CCNL) for the Metalworking Industry, with an indicative B2 level and a

minimum

gross annual salary starting from € 35.500,00.

The specific level and compensation package will be defined based on the outcome of the selection process (including experience, skills set, and role fit), in accordance with objective, transparent, and gender-neutral criteria, in line with pay equity and equal opportunity principles.

The total compensation package will also includes a variable bonus linked to individual and company targets.
