X Energy in Gaithersburg, MD is seeking a Thermal Analysis Engineer to design, analyze and validate mechanical systems for nuclear products. You will perform thermodynamic analyses, develop models and verification plans, and support production through prototyping and testing.

The role emphasizes hand calculations, 1D flow-solvers, and collaboration with systems engineers to meet safety and design requirements. On-site work Four days a week with up to 10% travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
• Level I: typically 0 years of experience; Level II: typically 2 years; Level III: typically 5 years.
• Proficiency with engineering hand calculations.
• Use of 1D flow-solvers performing heat/energy and mass balance (RELAP, Flownex, NPSS, SINDA/FLUINT, Flomaster, or similar).

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical concepts and support SSC development with focus on nuclear safety.
• Coordinate requirements, interfaces, design basis and criteria with stakeholders and systems engineers.
• Plan and perform analyses to ensure SSCs perform their functions and meet specs.
• Perform hand calculations and use analytical tools for thermal, structural, and other scope calculations.
• Support reactor and plant control philosophy development and modeling.
• Size and analyze components including heat exchangers, pumps, circulators, turbomachinery.
• Perform system-level thermodynamic analyses and process design with simulation codes.
• Assess manufacturability and integration considerations for SSCs.
• Prepare design documentation and calculations per procedures.
• Develop V&V plans for analytic tools and support qualification.
• Adhere to quality procedures and perform independent reviews.
• Maintain professional demeanor in all communications.
• Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
