Baton Rouge Community College is seeking a Testing Specialist to administer a range of exams, maintain accurate scoring records, and support student success through high-quality testing services.

The role requires experience in customer service, strong attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot testing platforms in a fast-paced academic environment. Evening and weekend testing flexibility is expected.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
  • Two years of professional-level customer service experience.
  • Ability to score test items accurately and understand testing procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with ability to work with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Administer testing placement exams, instructor exams, and other professional exams.
  • Process test results and update official scores.
  • Maintain testing files and prepare statistical reports on testing instruments.
  • Provide accommodated testing and special testing arrangements as needed.
  • Coordinate with faculty and staff to ensure smooth testing operations and customer service.

Testing Specialist
Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC)

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Supporting Student Success, Ensuring Assessment Excellence, and Advancing Institutional Achievement.

Responsible for providing all services offered by the Testing Center including but not limited to administering testing placement exams, instructor exams, adult education exams, various industry based credentials, other professional level exams, providing testing accommodations, processing test results, updating records with official scores, maintaining testing files, preparing statistical reports, and providing information related to the effectiveness of the testing instruments currently used. Also responsible for creating and maintaining an environment conducive to testing that is focused on student success and excellent customer service.

  • Responsible for helping to provide all services offered by the Testing Center established by BRCC for testing and assessment including but not limited to administering testing, processing test results, updating records with official scores, maintaining testing files, assisting preparing statistical reports, and providing information related to the effectiveness of the testing instruments currently used.
  • Administer all current and future exams offered by the Testing Center in a computer-based Testing Center and be able to trouble shoot any technical issues that may arise with exam administration.
  • Maintain efficient operations to meet the academic support needs of students including traditional and adult learners.
  • Collaborate with Testing Center staff to provide effective planning, delivery and evaluation of academic support services provided by the Testing Center.
  • Serve as liaison in communication with faculty, staff and students.
  • Provide exams on a flexible basis including evening and weekend testing.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with testing partners. Maintain testing certifications and be familiar with all computer based and paper-based testing procedures to administer exams.
  • Contribute recommendations for improved operations, services, and programs.
  • Ensure that equipment and furniture is conducive to testing.

  • Provide accommodated testing for all exams offered.

  • Conduct research of best practices and of Testing Center use.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience
  • Two (2) years of professional-level experience providing customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Advanced
  • Ability to accurately score test items
  • Ability to understand tests and assessment administration procedures
  • Ability to understand and communicate policies, procedures, and regulations to varying level of BRCC faculty, staff and students/prospective students from various socio-economic backgrounds
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations (demonstrates poise, tact, and diplomacy)
  • Working knowledge of and proficiency with a variety of computer word processing, spreadsheet, database software applications, ability to learn multiple computer-based testing platforms, and troubleshoot technical issues when administering exams.

Preferred Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Higher Education Leadership, or Educational Psychology.
Preferred Experience
  • Two (2) years or more of professional level experience in a college testing center or academic support unit (i.e. academic advising, tutoring center, onboarding center)
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Previous experience working a computer-based Testing Center with the ability to utilize multiple computer-based delivery systems.
  • Previous experience troubleshooting technical issues with computer systems.
