Job summary

Arizona State University in Tempe is seeking a Student Support Specialist 1 Non-Exempt to assist with exam administration and student services. The role supports students by connecting them to academic, professional, and personal resources to boost persistence and graduation rates.

Position salary range: $20.00 per hour. Work location varies with services; may require supervising rooms and Saturdays, with shifts based on testing schedules.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a customer service role.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Experience in basic office procedures.
  • Experience in performing basic arithmetic calculations accurately.
  • Experience maintaining strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Experience following specific written and oral directions.
  • Prior proctoring experience.
  • Evidence of a Bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and understands exam instructions, security requirements and procedures for each test to ensure adherence with test company policies and expectations.
  • Prepares materials and testing room in accordance with exam requirements.
  • Admits test takers, follows security check in and check out procedures; verifies candidates' identification and seats them according to test policies.
  • Maintains test security throughout exam in accordance with established criteria; upholds the highest standards of exam integrity.
  • Actively monitors testing room for breaches of test security by frequently walking quietly around test room; reports all violations and irregularities.
  • Assists with the distribution and collection of test materials; assists with accounting for and preparing materials at conclusion of exam in accordance with vendor return instructions.
  • Responds to questions and or inquiries from examinees with professionalism, calm demeanor, and authority.
  • Escalate candidate issues promptly.
  • Ensures optimal testing environment.
  • Work as a team, communicates effectively.
  • May be required to act as a room supervisor as an on needed basis.

Performs a variety of duties related to the administration of standardized paper and computer-based tests in accordance with established standards, guidelines, and criteria.

Working Environment
  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office, classroom, or conference center setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk/move moderate distances to perform work.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 40 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts and technology issues.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work Saturdays; work shift availability is contingent upon testing schedules.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: technology (tablet/computer workstation/laptop, keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
  • Hours: designated Saturdays; shifts vary.
  • Work location varies depending on the services provided .
