Job summary

The College of Lake County seeks a Testing Assistant to administer exams for students, staff and community members at the Grayslake campus, with coverage at other campuses as needed. This role focuses on test security, clear instructions, and courteous customer service.

Responsibilities include scheduling, data entry, maintaining FERPA-compliant records, tracking daily testing activity, and assisting with computer setup. This part-time position offers 19 hours per week and pays $16.13 per hour.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one year of office support or related experience.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general office equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines with regular guidance and frequent check-ins.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and maintain an inclusive environment.

  • Enter placement test scores accurately into the student database.
  • Maintain testing records in FERPA compliance and complete required annual training.
  • Track and report daily testing statistics and assist with file management and departmental tasks.
  • Participate in cross-departmental initiatives and campus events.
  • Identify and recommend process enhancements to improve efficiency and service delivery.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals.

Job Summary

The Testing Assistant administers a variety of computerized and paper-based exams for students, staff, instructors, and community members. Responsibilities include test administration, data entry, record maintenance, and customer service, while ensuring the security and confidentiality of all testing materials and student information. This position also assists with computer setup, tracks daily testing activity, and may require certification as a test administrator depending on the exam.

Department Operations and Processes: 35%
  • Monitor testing environments for compliance and report suspected violations.
  • Serve as a certified GED Examiner and ensure secure administration of High School Equivalency exams.
  • Maintain required testing certifications and assist in training new or temporary staff.

Physical

Primary functions require ability to remain in a stationary position (sit and/or stand) greater than 50% of the time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, reach; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 10 pounds frequently; to regularly operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including the use of a computer keyboard; the ability communicate to exchange information; and the ability to learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, and make timely decisions.

Environmental

Work will often occur in an office setting; where temperatures may fluctuate between high and low temperatures occasionally; may experience varying noise levels occasionally.

Vision

Ability to observe in a near visual range with or without correction or reasonable accommodation.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES COVERAGE AT GRAYSLAKE, SOUTHLAKE AND LAKESHORE CAMPUSESD AS NEEDED.

Pay: $16.13/hour

Work Schedule: Flexibility to work 19 hours per week between Monday-Thursday 8:00am - 9:00pm, Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm and Saturday 9:00am - 3:00pm.
