Job summary

DWP Digital is seeking a Test Engineer to collaborate with developers, designers and testers to build automated tests that ensure services work reliably for users in the UK. You will get involved early in development, shaping designs and applying risk-based testing across accessibility, usability, security and performance.

The role emphasizes contributing to CI/CD pipelines, learning new tech, and challenging ways of working to improve DWP digital services for users.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable skills in Java and/or TypeScript and the application of modern engineering practices.
• Experience building and maintaining automated tests against UI and APIs, with reliable frameworks.
• Experience of the testing lifecycle from delivery to production, including test generation and defect management.
• Adaptable team player with agile practices and shift-left principles (CI/CD).
• Knowledge of non-functional testing (Performance, Security, Accessibility) and related tools.

Job description

A day in the life of a Test Engineer at DWP digital is about working closely with developers, designers and other testers to help deliver services that people across the UK depend on. You'll get involved early in development, shaping designs and building automated tests that give teams confidence their services work properly and continue to work as they evolve. You'll focus on what really matters by taking a risk-based approach to testing, making sure accessibility, usability, security and performance are built in from the start. Alongside keeping CI/CD pipelines running smoothly and sharing clear updates on quality and risk, you'll be encouraged to challenge how things are done and suggest better ways of working to improve DWP services for users.

• Demonstrable skills in Java and/or TypeScript and the application of modern engineering practices, together with evidence of learning and applying new technologies in a software engineering environment.
• Experience building and maintaining comprehensive, robust and reliable automated tests against UI's and API's including contributing to improving frameworks and automation suites.
• Experience of the testing lifecycle from understanding business needs from delivery to production. Including test generation, reporting and defect management.
• Adaptable team player who understands agile ways of working and shift left principles e.g. CI/CD.
• Knowledge of non-functional testing e.g. Performance, Security and Accessibility - including test types, test tools and standards. We are looking for Test Engineers to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital.
