Responsibilities

• Evaluate course eligibility and remediation feasibility considering content volume, multimedia needs, and timelines.
• Remediate Canvas course content to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards, including headings, images, links, tables, color contrast, and structure.
• Ensure multimedia accessibility by verifying captions, transcripts, audio descriptions, and content controls.
• Review accessibility of course documents (PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and third-party tools; provide improvement recommendations.
• Generate detailed Course Eligibility Reports and Final Course Remediation Reports with actionable recommendations.
• Test remediated content using screen readers and accessibility tools to verify compliance and quality.

Overview

The Digital Media Accessibility Technician is responsible for evaluating and remediating online course content to ensure compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. This position plays a critical role in making educational materials accessible to students with disabilities, working directly with Canvas LMS courses and various digital media formats.

Remote or Hybrid work models are possible, but require Provost approval at time of hire.

Temporary Employment Services (TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:

• Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
• Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
• Assistance with special projects
• Seasonal work
• Emergencies

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience working with Learning Management Systems, preferably Canvas
• Strong working knowledge of WCAG 2.1 Level AA success criteria and techniques
• Proficiency in HTML and understanding of semantic markup
