Job summary

Stony Brook University is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor in the C.N. Yang Institute for Theoretical Physics (YITP) with a focus on formal quantum field theory and/or quantum gravity.

Start date anticipated for 9/1/27. The faculty member will conduct independent research, collaborate with colleagues across YITP and the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and participate in teaching and mentorship of students.

Qualifications

• PhD degree in theoretical physics or closely related field with an outstanding record of independent research.
• Experience mentoring graduate students and postdocs is desirable.
• Strong teaching ability and commitment to mentorship within a research institute.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent and collaborative research in formal quantum field theory and related areas.
• Publish results in high-quality journals and present at conferences.
• Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in physics.
• Mentor graduate students and postdocs and participate in academic service.
