Job summary

Carleton College invites applications for the Eugene S. Bailey Director of the Carleton Orchestra, a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning September 1, 2027.

The successful candidate will lead the orchestra and contribute to undergraduate music education, with additional duties based on departmental needs and the candidate's interests and expertise. Candidates should have a doctoral degree in instrumental conducting by Sept 1, 2027.

Qualifications

• PhD in instrumental conducting by Sept 1, 2027.
• Demonstrated ability to teach and direct undergraduate ensembles.
• Experience directing orchestral rehearsals and performances.

Responsibilities

• Directs the Carleton Orchestra and rehearsals.
• Teach applied instruction and related classes.
• Develop plans for contemporary and chamber ensembles.
