  • Serve as Orchestra Director and provide artistic and administrative leadership for the orchestra program.
  • Conduct the university orchestra and oversee programming, rehearsals, performances, auditions, and personnel.
  • Teach courses in conducting and related areas based on departmental needs.
  • Actively recruit and retain talented string students through engagement with high school programs and the broader orchestra community.
  • Work with applied string faculty to support student recruitment, retention, mentoring, and growth of string and orchestra programs.
  • Develop orchestral opportunities that support the artistic, educational, and career goals of students and the department.
  • Cultivate a professional and creative profile appropriate for tenure and contribute to department and university service.

Job Summary

The Department of Music in the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor (Orchestra Director).

Required Qualifications
  • Doctor of Musical Arts ( DMA ) or equivalent terminal degree in conducting or a related field by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated excellence as an orchestral conductor.
  • Demonstrated success in teaching conducting at the collegiate level.

  • Ability to recruit and retain orchestral students.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues and students.
