Job summary

Rowan University is seeking a tenure-track faculty member to lead its orchestral program, beginning September 1, 2027. The role requires conducting at a high artistic standard, teaching undergraduate courses, and building collaborations with the department and external partners.

Responsibilities include leading the University Orchestra, recruiting students, and maintaining relationships with regional public schools while contributing to scholarly/creative activity.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in music required; conducting experience essential.
• Proven track record as an orchestral director, preferably at the collegiate level.
• Strong knowledge of standard and contemporary orchestral repertoire; proven rehearsal techniques.
• Administrative skills and commitment to scholarly/creative activity in the profession.
• Ability to recruit outstanding students and build relationships with public schools in the region.

Responsibilities

• Lead the university's orchestral program and conduct the University Orchestra.
• Teach undergraduate Instrumental Conducting and related courses matching qualifications and interests.
• Develop a vision for the future of Rowan University's orchestral program and contribute to recruitment efforts.
• Collaborate with the Department, College, and external partners to enhance the program.
• Foster relationships with public schools and maintain a vibrant, collaborative community.
