Job summary

Hamline University in Minnesota seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music to join the Division of Arts. You will teach in history/culture, performance, digital music technologies, and direct ensembles across vocal, strings, wind, or piano areas.

The successful candidate will possess a terminal degree or ABD by July 31, 2027, with professional-level performance credentials and strong experience in music technology and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree in Music (PhD, DMA or MFA) from an accredited college or university or ABD by July 31, 2027.
• Active performer at the professional level.
• Competent skills in DAWs with a foundation in audio hardware; experience with live performance and music recording.

Responsibilities

• Classroom Teaching: contribute to core curriculum in Music Production Major, including history, theory, composition, digital technology and performance courses.
• Ensemble Direction: direct/conduct ensembles such as choir, orchestra, band, jazz band, or modern hybrid ensembles.
• Software and Technology Instruction: teach courses integrating digital music technology (preferably Logic Pro) with basic audio/MIDI editing and programming.
• Program Support: participate in curricular development, assessment, recruitment, and service as part of the music faculty team.
• Optional Performance Instruction: studio instruction in primary area focusing on technique, repertoire, and application to performance settings.
