The University of Minnesota Twin Cities invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of trombone in the School of Music. This is a 100% appointment for the nine‑month academic year.

We seek a collaborative performer–educator with demonstrated success in solo, chamber, and/or orchestral playing, and a commitment to diverse student recruitment and global musical practices. Qualifications

• Graduate degrees in music or equivalent professional experience.
• Artist and teacher able to prepare students for the contemporary musical landscape.
• Ability to recruit and mentor students with diverse career goals.
• Commitment to collaborative music making across contexts.
• Strong verbal, written, and digital communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Proactively recruit and maintain an outstanding, nationally recognized studio in trombone and potentially euphonium.
• Teach applied lessons, conduct studio class, coach chamber ensembles, and prepare students for careers.
• Develop and teach workshops or courses in secondary areas such as community engagement, career readiness, composition, technology.
• Maintain an active professional performance career to deepen the School's musical world.
• Advise students on academic and career goals.
• Provide service through participation in faculty governance.
• Contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
