Job summary

Cuyahoga Community College seeks a full-time tenure-track Automotive Technology faculty member. You will teach a broad range of ASE-related courses, prepare course materials, and evaluate student work while maintaining records and office hours for student guidance.

Qualifications include an associate degree in automotive tech (with a preferred bachelor’s), strong instructional skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. University collaboration and campus-wide involvement are expected.

Job Description

Teaches a full range of courses in the Automotive Technology Program, including all Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) automotive areas.

• Prepares and delivers lectures to students on various topics in relation to a specific discipline
• Evaluates and grades students’ class work, laboratory work, assignments and papers
• Prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts
• Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, speaking with colleagues and participating in professional conferences
• Maintains student attendance records, grades and other required records
• Initiates, facilitates and moderates classroom discussionsAs needed, advises students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues
• Plans, evaluates and revises curricula, course content and course materials and methods of instruction
• Compiles, administers and grades examinations
• Collaborates with colleagues to address teaching and research issues
• Maintains regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students
• Selects and obtains materials and supplies such as textbooks and laboratory equipment
• Serves on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional polices, department matters and academic issues
• Participates in campus and community events

Required

• Associate degree in Automotive Technology, Automotive Service Technology, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of five years of full-time professional experience as an automotive service technician, diagnostician, or in a closely related automotive service position.
• Evidence of current industry training and professional development, preferably completed within the last three years.
• Teaching, training, or instructional experience in a postsecondary, secondary, industry, apprenticeship, or workforce-development setting.
• Demonstrated knowledge of current automotive systems, diagnostic technologies, and service practices.
• Knowledge of curriculum and training design, teaching methods, and instructional practices.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent productivity and instructional technology.
• Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated logical reasoning, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse student population.

Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology, Automotive Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience with current and emerging automotive technologies, including advanced diagnostics, vehicle electronics, hybrid/electric vehicles, ADAS, and related systems.
• Manufacturer-specific training or certifications through Ford Motor Company, General Motors, or other automotive manufacturers.
• Ford or GM credentials/training qualifying the candidate to deliver STST (Service Technician Specialty Training) or other manufacturer-specific certification courses.
• Experience developing or delivering competency-based automotive curriculum and laboratory instruction.
• Experience working with automotive industry partners, dealerships, repair facilities, manufacturers, or workforce-development programs.

This is a full-time tenure track faculty opportunity.The selected faculty member hired for this position could teach at any one of the College's campuses or sites.

Total Compensation & Benefits

Target Hiring Rate/Salary:$58,165 with B.A. plus 30 semester hours (45quarter credits) or M.A. degree; Education less than or more than stated willaffect minimum salary. This salary reflects a nine (9) month contract period.Faculty can work during summer sessions to earn additional wages.
