Job summary

City Colleges of Chicago seeks a tenure-track English instructor at Harold Washington College to teach composition and related courses on campus. The role requires a Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a related field and community college teaching experience is favored.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a related field is required.
• Community college teaching experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with multi-modal pedagogy and technology use.
• Ability to design curricula that address diverse student needs.
• Experience teaching journalism or media writing is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Teach composition courses at all levels and related English courses as needed.
• Engage students with innovative teaching approaches.
• Maintain currency in areas of responsibility and curricula.
• Prepare and evaluate assignments and exams with fair feedback.
• Organize materials to suit diverse learning abilities.
• Develop learning outcomes and assess student performance.
• Use a variety of methods and online tools to support learning.
• Maintain campus presence and participate in governance and program reviews.

Education

Master's Degree in Composition/Rhetoric/English/Writing/Creative Writing

Ph.D. in Composition/Rhetoric/English/Writing/Creative Writing or related field

Community college teaching experience preferred

Multi-modal approaches and student-centered pedagogy

Using technology in an educational setting

Knowledge of diverse student populations and inclusive teaching

Experience teaching journalism writing or media writing
