Job summary

City Colleges of Chicago is seeking an Adjunct Instructor – Japanese for Harold Washington College. This position requires a Master's degree in Japanese and three or more years of teaching experience in a college or university setting. Position: Adjunct Instructor – Japanese

The position is at Harold Washington College and may require day, evening and/or weekend working hours in person.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have at the minimum a Master’s Degree in Japanese and three or more years teaching Japanese in a university or college environment. Experience should include time spent studying or living in a francophone country as well. Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of the needs of the World Language student in a community college environment and have significant experience working in a multicultural classroom. Candidates must possess demonstrated excellence in teaching, a commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process, and the ability to inspire, motivate and empower students to succeed.

Essential Functions Of The Position
  • Construction of a course syllabus consistent with Departmental and College Requirements.
  • Development and preparation of lesson plans, course presentations, and instructional materials.
  • Delivery of instruction with an emphasis on student-centered activities and active learning.
  • Consultation with and one-on-one tutoring of students.
  • Maintenance of clear records on student performance, as well as any other factors, such as attendance, involved with the grading of students.
  • Compliance with departmental and institutional policies and procedures including, but not limited to, submission of midterm and final grades, keeping office hours, and decisions regarding instructional matters such as texts, assignments, and grading standards.
  • Participation in department and/or institutional assessments of student learning.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: $800.00 per contact hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as other factors such as internal equity.
