Job summary

State of Minnesota, Transportation Department, District 6, seeks temporary Snowplow Operators to support snow and ice operations across Albert Lea, Austin, Dresbach, Owatonna, Red Wing, Rochester, Stewartville and Winona. Roles include Transportation Generalist or Transportation Associate, with varied shifts and potential overtime.

Applicants must hold a valid CDL, pass drug tests, and be prepared for night/weekend work and holiday coverage.

Qualifications

Must possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no Airbrake Restriction and obtain Class A CDL with no Airbrake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement within 6 months.
The incumbent will be subject to drug and alcohol testing and must pass a preplacement drug test for marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP, amphetamines, MDMA/MDA/MDEA and acetyl morphine (6‑AM).
Must be registered in FMCSA CDL Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand information; communicate with employees and the public.
Education substitution: completion of Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program can substitute for one year of experience.

Responsibilities

Maintain roadways for snow and ice control.
Prepare and inspect winter equipment.
Perform preseason snow route inspection and post-storm cleanup.
Perform winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing/de-icing chemicals.
Install, repair, maintain and remove snow fences; replace mailboxes.
Maintain documentation on snow and ice data for inventory and resource management.
Perform traffic control set-ups and notify dispatch of disabled vehicles.
