Job summary

City of Reno is seeking a Public Art Technician to support the Arts & Culture Team. This temporary, part-time role involves maintaining the public art collection, assisting with gallery exhibitions, and coordinating events and programs.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for arts and community initiatives, plus two years of art handling or office support experience and knowledge of standard software tools. Evening or weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in art handling and/or paid office or program support.
• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level coursework in art, art history, art conservation, and/or gallery practices.
• Knowledge of customer service principles.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Teams, and graphics software such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain the public art collection, including hanging and moving artwork, removing graffiti, applying graffiti coatings, and preparing signal boxes.
• Assist in formulating procedures, standards, and planning for City collection.
• Assist with all aspects of City gallery exhibitions (calendaring, wall labels, install/deinstall, artist contracts, coordinating delivery and pickup of work, promotion, printed materials, receptions, etc.).
• Help maintain public art database.
• Help coordinate and organize professional development workshops.
• Assist with various programs including galleries, public art, and arts events.
• Convey and exchange verbal and written information.
• Greet customers and provide program information.
• Collaborate with staff on various projects as needed.
• Perform related duties as required.
