Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and guests according to company standards and assist with service needs.
  • Document patient exam in the EHR, including orders and scheduling follow-ups.
  • Respond to internal communications in a timely manner.
  • Obtain complete patient histories (chief complaint, ocular/medical history, allergies).
  • Perform ophthalmic tests (visual acuity, tonometry, pachymetry, visual fields, OCTs, lensometry).
  • Calibrate diagnostic equipment and sterilize instruments as needed.
  • Provide patient education and medication grids; assist in triage.
  • Dispense medication or samples as directed.
  • Review chart notes for ICD-10 accuracy; sign and close encounters; transmit eRx.
  • Obtain patient signatures for consent forms; set up exam rooms and maintain clean spaces.
  • Coordinate culture documents and specimen handling; coordinate lab pickups.
  • Attend HIPAA/PHI trainings and stay compliant.
  • Open/close testing rooms and stock exam lanes; maintain order.
  • Schedule return appointments and referrals; travel between clinics as scheduled.

Unifeye Vision Partners is currently hiring for a Temp Ophthalmic Scribe, Upland, CA

SUMMARY

The Ophthalmic Scribe assists the doctors with documentation of the patient exam into the patient's electronic health record (EHR). The Scribe will also assist with facilitation of surgery and procedure scheduling and scheduling of return appointments as directed by the provider. Partners with other clinic staff to facilitate efficient clinic flow and ensure quality patient care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Greet all patients and guests according to company standards, anticipate and address service needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and thank others with genuine appreciation. Treat each patient with respect by greeting them by name, introducing yourself, and ensuring that the patient understands what will happen during the exam.
  • Document patient exam in EHR, scribing all elements of the patient exam including procedure orders, e-prescribing medications and scheduling the return to clinic. Ensure all entries are accurate by the team.
  • Respond to internal communications in a timely manner.
  • Perform the following as needed: Obtain complete patient histories including chief complaint, past ocular/medical history, family medical/ocular history and history of allergies and medications.
  • Perform ophthalmologic tests including visual acuity, applanation tonometry, pachymetry, visual fields, corneal topography, OCTs, lensometry, and other tests as directed within the prescribed timeline.
  • Calibrate diagnostic equipment and perform instrument sterilization as needed.
  • Provide patient and family counseling/education as needed, including the creation of medication grids.
  • Assist in triage.
  • Dispense medication and/or over the counter product samples as directed.
  • Review all chart notes and correspondence daily to ensure accuracy and completeness. Ensure chart documentation meets ICD-10 requirements. Work with doctors to sign and close encounters and transmit ERx.
  • Obtain patient signature on consent documents for in lane and surgical procedures.
  • Set up exam rooms per provider preference, keep exam rooms stocked and clean between patients; cleaned at end of each workday; assist in maintaining public spaces for professional appearance.
  • Partner with providers to prepare culture documents, ensure proper storage of specimens, contact lab for pickup and ensure specimen is in the lockbox for pick up.
  • Attend trainings and stay current on requirements for HIPAA compliance and Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Ensure opening and closing of special testing rooms. Maintain stocking of exam lane and maintain order in working areas.
  • Schedule return appointments as ordered by the provider, including referrals to outside providers.
  • Travel between clinics as scheduled.
  • Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Typing and computer knowledge required
  • Previous experience with EHR systems required and ophthalmology experience highly preferred
  • Bilingual a plus
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, Ophthalmology preferred
  • Ability to perform ophthalmic tests and calibrate equipment per manufacturer guidelines
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High schedule diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a medical office, ophthalmic experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Medical Scribe Certification and Aptitude Test (MSCAT) preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no supervisory responsibility.
