Job summary

Ideal candidates are certified ophthalmic assistants or technicians, with COA/OSC/COT preferred and willingness to travel to other offices occasionally. Training in NextGen or similar EHR is valued, with a focus on exceptional patient service.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly with patients and staff.
  • Basic computer literacy required.
  • Energetic with a positive attitude.
  • Willing to travel to other offices occasionally.
  • Able to stand for eight hours.
  • Strong typing or legibility in dim settings.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and establish rapport.
  • Document chief complaint and history accurately.
  • Document visits and procedures in real-time.
  • Communicate follow-up care and schedules.
  • Maintain ophthalmic equipment and inventory.
  • Code using ICD-10 and CPT accurately.
  • Navigate NextGen or applicable EHR.
  • Process prescription refills with proper documentation.
  • Educate patients on medications.

As anOphthalmic Scribeyou will provide accurate documentation and summarization of the examination and recommendations, while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status.

Responsibilities
  • Make introductions and establish rapport with patients
  • Initiate patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines
  • Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, and other procedures
  • Communicates with patients regarding follow up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, signs and symptoms, surgery schedules
  • Maintains and cleans all ophthalmic equipment being used
  • Ability to document and apply correct ICD-10 and CPT Codes
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail.
  • Effectively navigate NextGen software or applicable EHR
  • Complete requests for prescription refills as authorized by physician, with full documentation in patient chart
  • Educate patients regarding administration of medications
  • Check temperature of medical refrigerator daily
  • Maintain and conduct inventory of medications and supplies
  • Assist with maintenance of clinical examination equipment
  • Clean surgical instruments in preparation for sterile processing
  • Inspect instruments periodically for damage, send for repair, and request a replacement, as necessary
  • Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring equipment is wiped down in an appropriate manner and as per office procedures, battery powered instruments are seated properly in re-charge wells, slit lamps and projectors are switched off under covers
  • Follow all safety procedures as per guidelines
  • Prioritize building and maintaining a positive relationship with doctors and clinical colleagues
  • Executes duties of position in a professional and courteous manner
  • Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, staff, managers, and doctors.
  • Basic computer literacy required.
  • Highly energetic with a positive attitude.
  • Must be willing to travel to other offices occasionally to meet the demands of business.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for eight hours.
  • Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly lit setting.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) preferred
  • Certified Ophthalmic Scribe (OSC) preferred/Ability to obtain certification within one year of employment
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred
  • Two years as medical scribe preferred
  • Knowledge of ophthalmology billing/coding strongly preferred
  • NextGen or applicable EHR experience preferred
