Job summary

Calvert County Government's Department of Technology Services seeks an entry-level administrative/technical support specialist for the Service Desk. The role includes troubleshooting basic computer issues, documenting findings, and logging incidents and service requests in ServiceNow, along with front-desk duties.

Under close supervision, you will perform general office tasks, handle calls and visitors, manage mail, maintain personnel files, and assist with data entry and document preparation.

Job description

This position provides technical and administrative support to Technology Services’ Service Desk. Duties include troubleshooting basic computer issues, documenting findings, and entering incidents and service requests in ServiceNow. The position also performs general office functions, including telephone and visitor reception, printer operation, and clerical support. Requires basic computer knowledge, keyboard proficiency, and the ability to learn and apply office procedures. The work is performed under close to general supervision of administrative staff or higher graded office staff.

Performs beginning level general office clerical work in support of unit operations. The work involves learning basic office functions and procedures such as telephone and visitor reception, photocopy machine operation, and other general office clerical tasks. The work requires ability to operate keyboard devices but no experience. The work is performed under close to general supervision of administrative staff or higher graded office staff.

Essential Job Functions

Receives and assists visitors to the office; queries visitors and directs them to appropriate staff or offices.

Receives, screens, and refers telephone calls; queries callers and transfers or refers calls to appropriate staff or other offices.

Receives and routes mail; directs items to other staff or County offices as appropriate.

Maintains staff personnel files to include in-service training for police and correction of three counties.

Processes information by keying data into computer databases and other computerized record systems.

Verifies information on billings and other documents.

Produces a variety of word-processed documents such as letters, memoranda, and reports; proofs and edits materials for accuracy of grammar, spelling, punctuation and format and makes corrections.

Operates copying machine or other office appliances not requiring previous specialized training.

Performs a variety of routine office functions.

Other Duties

Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)
Training and/or Education:

High School diploma or GED equivalent, including or supplemented by courses in keyboard operation.

Special Requirements:

A pre-employment and annual tuberculosis screening will be required if employed in a substance abuse or correctional facility.

May be subject to background investigation, psychological testing, and drug screening.

Physical Demands:

Operation of keyboard devices.

May require strenuous physical effort to perform manual work involving walking over rough, uneven terrain, repeated bending, climbing, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or lifting objects up to 100 pounds.

Unusual Demands:

Work is subject to frequent interruptions.

FLSA Status:

Nonexempt

Compensation Steps:

Pay rate: $21.57 per hour

Grade 713, temporary position, up to 35 hours per week
