Temporary Floater – Weekends Only / Direct Support Professional / Caregiver

- Starting pay: $18.00 per hour, based on location, unit, and client needs
Overview
Float DSP/Caregiver positions support designated units during staffing shortages or high census situations. The role involves providing direct support to individuals or groups with intellectual, developmental, and related disabilities, including those with mental health or substance use challenges. The caregiver helps clients identify and communicate their needs, implements services in line with the client’s Centered Plan, and works closely with the team to achieve individual goals.
Responsibilities
- Assist units with staffing needs such as vacancies and census above budget
- Support clients in identifying and communicating their requests and needs
- Implement services and supports to address client goals and outcomes as identified through each person’s Centered Plan
- Understand individuals in the context of their personal history, social and family networks, and future hopes and dreams
- Work under direction and supervision to accomplish job duties
Float Pool Requirements
- Commit to 4 shifts (8, 10, or 12 hours) across multiple units within a 2‑week schedule, including one weekend shift
- Work two of the specified winter dates: Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Eve (nights)/Black Friday (days), Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, or New Year’s Day
- Work one of the specified summer dates: Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day
- No special pay or bonuses (except base pay) unless approved by leadership
- Positions are temporary and based on need
Position Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of direct caregiving experience in an IDD setting; behavioral health experience preferred for certain units
- Complete all required training and competency checklists for homes, clients, or units worked in
- Maintain all required licensure, certifications, and CPR certification current
- Complete annual RHA and unit‑specific competencies when due and record in Workday
- Undergo monthly eligibility reviews for continued program participation
- Pre‑employment screening: criminal background check, drug testing, education verification, and credential verification based on position requirements
- Provide proof of employment history or references if required
- Provide proof of driver's license, insurance, and vehicle only if the role requires driving for client transportation
Physical Requirements
- Regularly lift 30 lbs; able to lift a minimum of 70 lbs
- Capable of pulling a minimum of 50 lbs
- Can squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, and stoop as needed
- Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls continuously
- Stand and walk regularly
- Demonstrate CPR proficiency working on hands, knees, bending, standing, and lifting from floor level
- Maintain close, distance, and peripheral vision; able to talk and hear adequately
