RHA Health Services, LLC in Knoxville, TN is seeking a Temp Float Direct Support Professional to cover staffing needs across units. The Float DSP provides support to individuals with IDD, mental health, and substance use challenges, helping them communicate needs and access services.
Qualified candidates have at least 2 years of direct caregiving in IDD settings, CPR certification, and must complete required trainings and annual competencies.
We are hiring for: Temp Float – Direct Support Professional, Type: Regular.
The Float DSP/Caregiver position supports designated units with staffing needs such as vacancies and census above budget through placement of experienced direct support professionals. Float DSPs provide support for individuals or groups with intellectual, developmental disabilities, as well as people facing mental health and substance use challenges. Responsibilities include assisting individuals in identifying and communicating their requests and needs, implementing services and supports to address goals identified in each person’s Centered Plan, and working under direction and supervision to accomplish the job.
Float DSPs must commit to 4 shifts (8, 10, or 12 hours) at multiple units per 2‑week schedule, including one weekend shift. They must work two out of the six winter dates listed (Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Eve (night)/Black Friday (day), Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day) and one of the summer dates (Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day). Float DSPs are not eligible for special pay or bonuses beyond base pay, unless approved by leadership. Positions are temporary and based on need.
• Minimum 2 years of direct caregiving experience in an IDD setting, with behavioral health experience preferred for some units.
• Completion of all required training and competency checklists for the units they may work in.
• Maintenance of required licensure, certifications, and CPR certification.
• Completion of all required RHA and unit‑specific annual competencies when due and recording of competency in Workday.
• Monthly review of work requirements to determine continued eligibility for the program.
This position is not eligible for benefits.
• Regularly required to lift 30 lbs.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 70 lbs.
• Must be able to pull a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Ability to squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, and stoop.
• Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Regularly required to stand and walk.
• Proficiency in CPR from the floor level, including work on hands, knees, bending, standing, and lifting.
• Vision requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision, and ability to talk and hear.
• Criminal background check (OIG exclusions database, Child Abuse Registry, Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities).
• Drug testing.
• Education verification and other credentialing as required.
• Proof of employment history or references (if required).
• For positions requiring driving: proof of driver’s license, driver’s insurance, and vehicle (if required for transportation).
