Job summary

Axle is seeking a highly qualified Bone and Matrix Scientist to support NICHD research at the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD. The role focuses on bone tissue, bone cell development, and molecular biology with independent project leadership.

The position is a temporary appointment (Dec 2026–Feb 2027) with expected lab work, data analysis, and preparation of manuscript-ready reports. Telework may be available based on project requirements.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Physiology, Cell Biology, or a closely related scientific discipline required.
• Ph.D. in Physiology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline strongly preferred.
• Experience with bone tissue and bone cell development required.
• Experience designing, conducting, analyzing, and interpreting complex experiments.
• Experience with mouse models and preparing animal study protocols.
• Experience drafting manuscripts, reports, abstracts, and presentations.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and conduct complex experiments in bone biology and related fields.
• Perform bone tissue and bone cell development studies and related molecular work.
• Independently lead high-priority research projects and develop new assays.
• Evaluate new lab techniques, instruments, and software for SOP updates.
• Collaborate with investigators and staff to interpret data and report findings.
• Prepare data for abstracts, presentations, and publications.
