Job summary

The College of Charleston invites applications for a Temporary Academic and Workforce Success Advisor (F/T) to support adult learners, transfer students, and EPIC Scholars in the Bachelor of Professional Studies program. The role combines recruitment, academic advising, career coaching, and workforce engagement to guide students from recruitment through graduation.

This on-campus position requires some evening and weekend work, with potential travel within SC and eligibility for healthcare

Qualifications

  • Understanding of adult learning principles and student development among diverse learner populations.
  • Ability to deliver academic advising in person and online, in one-on-one and group settings.
  • Understanding and compliance with FERPA requirements.
  • Strong career counseling skills, including resume/LinkedIn development, interview prep, and job search strategies.
  • Understanding of recruitment strategies for transfer and adult learners.
  • Data-informed decision-making and use of admissions/advising/career technology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide proactive advising for BPS majors, minors, and certificates.
  • Develop academic progression plans and teach students how to register for courses.
  • Assist with onboarding, orientation, and transition support for adult learners and transfer students.
  • Monitor student progress, provide outreach to at‑risk students, and connect learners with academic and personal support resources.
  • Represent the program at transfer fairs, career events, and community outreach activities.
  • Utilize Salesforce to manage prospective student communication, recruitment, and yield strategies.
  • Provide unofficial transcript evaluations for prospective students to utilize in their decision-making process.

Additional Comments Regarding Position

The Academic and Workforce Success Advisor supports adult learners, transfer students, and EPIC Scholars in the Bachelor of Professional Studies ( BPS ) program. This position combines recruitment, academic advising, career coaching, and workforce engagement to ensure student success from recruitment through graduation and beyond. This position is on-campus, with some evening and weekend work required. Some travel in SC may be required. The candidate filling this position may be eligible for healthcare benefits.

  • conduct information sessions and prospective student appointments for the purposes of program recruitment

  • provide unofficial transcript evaluations for prospective students to utilize in their decision-making process

  • provide individual career advising, including career exploration, graduate/professional school planning, and job search strategies for BPS students
  • conduct individual interview coaching, resume review, and LinkedIn evaluations
  • facilitate workshops using tools such as Design Thinking and career assessment instruments.
  • develop career resources, handouts, and online tools tailored to adult learners and transfer students
  • offer recommendations to the CPE team based on the latest data and trends in workforce readiness
