Job summary

Rochester Public Schools seeks a Special Education ESP to support students with special education services on-site. The role involves instructional support, data collection, behavior management, and collaboration with certified staff to implement IEP goals at the school site.

Temporary position with a schedule of 6.5 hours per day, August 17, 2026 to on or around October 5, 2026, and 180 duty days per year.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirement; 60 college credits and/or two-year degree.
• Alternative: Paraeducator Assessments available with passing scores.
• High School diploma or GED required.
• Experience working with elementary age students is preferred.
• Basic computer skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide services in school and occasionally at home as needed.
• Report in person to a school building as required.
• Monitor and supervise students in lunchroom and playground.
• Follow Behavior Intervention Plans and Emergency Healthcare Plans.
• Support students with personal cares as needed.
• Work with students with diverse disabilities.
• Observe and document student progress and behaviors.
• Communicate progress to classroom teachers and related staff.
• Utilize iPads and devices for non-verbal communication.
• Assist with de-escalation techniques and restrictive procedure training.
• Supervise students before, during and after school hours.
• Engage with students at their level and support meal times and field trips.
• Model appropriate language and social behavior.
• Build relationships with students from diverse backgrounds.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional integrity.
