Job summary

Santa Fe Community College seeks a Child Care Worker to support lead teachers and assistants in our early childhood center, ensuring safety, well-being and developmental progress for children.

Responsibilities include preparing materials, implementing lesson plans, supervising activities, maintaining a clean classroom, and communicating with families. This on-site role is 40 hours weekly, casual employment, and non-exempt status.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of NM Early Childhood 45-hour Entry Level Class within 3 months.
• CPR certification or training required within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist lead teachers in daily classroom activities and lesson implementation.
• Provide coverage across classrooms for varying age groups.
• Supervise children during activities, meals, and rest periods to ensure safety.
• Support emotional and social development through positive interactions.
• Maintain a clean, organized classroom and sanitation procedures.
• Communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff.
• Participate in staff meetings and required trainings.
• Assist with diaper changes and outdoor play prep, including sunscreen application.
• Supervise playground activities and respond to children's needs promptly.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Child Care Worker plays a vital role in supporting the overall educational environment within our early childhood center. This position involves assisting lead teachers and Teachers Assistants in one or more classrooms as needed, ensuring the safety, well-being, and developmental progress of the children under our care.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist lead teachers in daily classroom activities, including preparing materials, and implementing lesson plans.
• Provide coverage in various classrooms as needed, adapting quickly to different age groups and teaching styles.
• Ensure a safe and nurturing environment by supervising children during activities, meals, and rest periods.
• Support the emotional and social development of children by encouraging positive interactions and modeling appropriate behavior.
• Assist with maintaining a clean and organized classroom environment. Maintains sanitation and daily cleaning procedures;
• Sanitizes toys, classroom furniture and surfaces
• Communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff to foster a collaborative and supportive educational atmosphere.
• Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
• Changes children's diapers.
• Prepares children for outdoor playtime; helps with clothing such as coats, hats, etc. and applies sunscreen.
• Supervises children on playground.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• NM Early Childhood 45-hour Entry Level Class or any 3-credit course in early childhood education within the first 3 months of hire.
• Pediatric Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Certificate or Completion of Training within 90 days of hire.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• The role requires a high level of physical activity, including standing for extended periods, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting children and classroom materials (up to 30 pounds).
• Work is primarily conducted indoors, but may include outdoor activities in various weather conditions, such as playground supervision or outdoor learning experiences.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud, typical of a child care setting.
• As with any child care environment, there is potential exposure to common childhood illnesses, requiring adherence to health and safety protocols.

Schedule Designation

• Position will be required to work on-site in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
• Monday through Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm.
