Job summary

SFCC Santa Fe Community College seeks Classroom Assistant staff for the Kids Campus Early Learning Center. You will support Lead Teachers in planning, documentation, and daily activities while promoting safety, hygiene, and child development.

This role requires teamwork, strong communication with families, and adherence to licensing standards. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma with basic ECE credits; bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with setting up materials and equipment for daily activities.
• Ensure sanitation and daily cleaning of toys, furniture, laundry, dishes and surfaces.
• Support safety, involvement, and creativity of each child.
• Work with individual children and small groups; supervise daily routines.
• Supervise children on playground; prep for outdoor playtime.
• Assist children with dressing, toileting, hygiene, diapering, eating, sunscreen.
• Cover for teachers in their absence; provide classroom coverage for breaks and lunches.
• Accompany Lead Teacher on home visits for Early PreK/PreK children.
• Assist with portfolios, data collection and ASQ assessments.
• Communicate with families in person and in writing to foster relationships.
• Comply with licensing requirements (NAEYC, ECECD, CACFP).
• Attend required professional development for Kids Campus curriculum and accreditation.

Position Summary

Assists lead teacher in a variety of classrooms in the Kids Campus Early Learning Center. Must be committed to serving a diverse community. Actively participates in and contributes to continuous quality improvement.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Assists Lead Teachers in planning, implementing and documenting activities, preparing daily logs, incident reports and completing portfolios.
• Assists teachers in setting up materials and equipment for daily activities.
• Ensure sanitation and daily cleaning of toys, classroom furniture, laundry, dishes and surfaces.
• Ensures the safety, involvement, and creativity of each child.
• Works with individual children and small groups, supervising and assisting them in daily routines.
• Supervises children on the playground after preparing them for outdoor playtime.
• Assists children with daily activities such as dressing, toileting, personal hygiene, diapering, eating, and applying sunscreen.
• Fulfills the responsibilities and duties of Teachers in their absence.
• Provides coverage in the classroom for staff breaks and lunches.
• Accompanies Lead Teacher to home visits for Early PreK/PreK children.
• Assists Teachers with completion of children’s portfolios, data collection, and Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) assessments.
• Communicate with families in person and in writing to foster strong, transparent relationships with families through effective and consistent communication.
• Complies with all NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), ECECD (Early childhood Education & Care Department); CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) and other licensing and regulation requirements.
• Attends the required professional development for Kids Campus Bilingual curriculum, NAEYC accreditation, NM PreK, and the ECECD.

Conditions of Employment

• Required to successfully pass all required background checks, including those conducted by ECECD and Santa Fe Community College prior to employment and periodically thereafter in accordance with regulatory and institutional requirements.
• Must possess and maintain current Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Pediatric First Aid certifications.
• New hires are required to obtain both certifications and any required ECECD trainings within ninety (90) days of hire and renew them on or before their expiration date.
• May be reassigned to other classrooms or age groups on a temporary or permanent basis, based on program needs and staffing requirements.
• Must complete a minimum of 3 academic credits per semester (Summer, Fall, and Spring) toward an Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education as required for Kids Campus NAEYC Accreditation.

Schedule Designation

This role will be required to work on-site at Santa Fe Community College. Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Work is performed in classroom and outdoor settings. Frequently lifts up to 30 lbs. and occasionally 40-50 lbs. Work requires the ability to use the sense of smell to detect safety and hygiene concerns such as spoiled food, soiled diapers or clothing, sanitation issues, smoke, or other environmental hazards. Occasional climbing. Regularly exposed to noise. Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne pathogens and contagious or infectious diseases. The work requires the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to gloves, masks, and other protective devices as required.

• Teacher Assistant I: High School Diploma or equivalent Child Development Certificate (CDC) Six (6) months of experience in an early childhood setting OR High School Diploma or equivalent 12+ credits in early childhood education Six (6) months of experience in an early childhood setting
• Teacher Assistant II: High School Diploma or equivalent 29 Early Childhood Credits (equivalent to NM Professional Certificate) One (1) year of experience in an early childhood setting
• Teacher Assistant III: AA Degree in Early Childhood or closely related One (1) year of experience in an early childhood setting
• Teacher Assistant IV: Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood One (1) year of experience in an early childhood setting OR Unrelated Bachelor’s Degree Early Childhood Teaching License One (1)year of experience in an early childhood setting OR Unrelated Bachelor’s Degree AA in Early Childhood One (1) year of experience in an early childhood setting
