Position Overview
A large, established organization in the Westchester area of Los Angeles is seeking an experienced HR Benefits Specialist to provide immediate support to its Benefits team.
This is a hands- on benefits administration position requiring someone who can quickly step into an active environment and support employee inquiries, benefits transactions, COBRA administration, carrier billing, reconciliations, payroll integration, audits, and Open Enrollment activities.
The ideal candidate has at least three years of dedicated benefits administration experience. Experience with Workday Benefits is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Benefits Administration & Employee Support
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employee benefits questions and resolve enrollment, eligibility, and claims-related issues
- Manage employee benefit inquiries through email and a service management platform
- Process and administer benefit life events from initiation through completion
- Support leave-of-absence benefit events and related transactions
- Review and approve dependent eligibility documentation
- Process Evidence of Insurability approvals and denials
- Prepare benefit verification letters, enrollment reminders, and insurance conversion communications
- Coordinate medical support orders with Payroll
Billing, Premium Reconciliation & COBRA
- Reconcile and process monthly insurance carrier invoices
- Manage employee premium receipts and deposits
- Resolve benefit arrears and outstanding premium balances
- Prepare late-premium notifications for employees on leave
- Administer COBRA processes from initiation through reconciliation
- Audit COBRA records against HRIS data and resolve discrepancies
Audits, Reporting & Payroll Integration
- Partner closely with Payroll during semi-monthly and biweekly payroll cycles
- Review benefit retroactivity and arrears to ensure accurate payroll processing
- Run and analyze recurring benefits audit reports
- Audit terminated employees with active benefits and other status discrepancies
- Review benefit coverage end dates and dependent eligibility
- Audit ACA eligibility and passive life events
- Track benefit eligibility for part-time employee populations
- Audit carrier integration files and resolve discrepancies
- Prepare recurring benefits and payroll reports
Open Enrollment
- Provide administrative and employee support throughout Open Enrollment
- Coordinate benefits fair logistics
- Communicate with insurance carriers and benefit vendors
- Assist with event scheduling, setup, and employee communications
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on employee benefits administration or benefits analyst experience
- Workday Benefits experience strongly preferred
- Experience administering employee life events and eligibility changes
- Working knowledge of COBRA administration
- Experience with carrier billing and invoice reconciliation
- Experience partnering with Payroll on benefit deductions, retros, and arrears
- Strong experience auditing benefits data and resolving discrepancies
- Strong Excel and reporting skills
- Open Enrollment experience
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to appropriately handle confidential employee information
- Strong employee service and communication skills
- Ability to work onsite in Westchester, Los Angeles
- Ability to start quickly strongly preferred
Experience supporting benefits for a university, large employer, or other complex employee population is highly desirable.
$30-$35 per hour (DOE)
