Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Minneapolis, MN seeks a Medical Instrument Technician (EKG/Telemetry) to operate and monitor electrocardiographic equipment for continuous telemetry rhythm evaluation and interpretation.

You will remotely monitor cardiac rhythms and ox readings for up to 35 patients under RN and provider supervision. Duties include coordinating with nursing, interpreting rhythm strips, and training staff on telemetry procedures.

Qualifications

• No specific educational requirements; substitutions allowed for GS-4/GS-5
• KSAs include knowledge of basic medical terminology and ability to learn equipment operation
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing
• Experience in operating diagnostic/therapeutic equipment is considered for advancement

Responsibilities

• Assist nursing with determining alarm settings and parameters for each patient
• Print and interpret telemetry rhythm strips and oximetry waveforms; inform nursing staff of changes
• Document rhythm interpretation and readings every 8 hours and with changes
• Download and interpret 12-Lead EKG and Holter results into patient records
• Maintain and troubleshoot cardiac equipment to keep it in good working order
• Provide training on Telemetry, EKG, Holter, and exercise tolerance equipment
